Unfortunately, I'm not very experienced with javascript, but from what I can see, the apparently code fails to properly register a callback for status changes, which in turn causes the animation of the smiley to fail and makes the speech unpauseable and unstoppable. It's location is in the jar archive in the xpi file, in a .js file with 'overlay' in the file name... Anyone with more knowledge than me in javascript who's willing to give it a try?
